Your everyday life is a doorway into life’s profoundest mysteries! Everything about you — from how you like your breakfast eggs prepared to the problems you’re having on the golf course, from your relationship conflicts to your favorite jokes — offers valuable clues to the most perplexing enigmas of human existence. At least that’s what Dr. Mark Dillof contends in this interview.
For over twenty-five years, Dr. Dillof has been a philosophical counselor and spiritual life coach. He utilizes a method called Ontoanalysis, which uncovers the deeper meaning of our interests, desires, conflicts, and anxieties. Ontoanalysis is essentially a western route to eastern wisdom. To get there, you don’t need to mediate, stand on your head, nor breathe through your toes. All you need to do is to illuminate your everyday experience.
Dr. Dillof believes that it is particularly valuable to illuminate the negative dimension of your life, whatever form it may take — from insomnia to job conflicts, from overeating to mother-in-law problems — for doing so is the fastest route to Self-realization.
He contends that spiritual awakening consists in getting the cosmic joke. That is why Dillof views Ontoanalysis as essentially a form of laugh therapy, the result of which is healthful and emotionally liberating cosmic belly laughter. He has offered seminars on cosmic laugh therapy to thousands of chronically serious organizations. (Alas, he’s offered them, but they’ve rarely accepted his offer.) Information about his current seminar can be found here.
Dr. Dillof is director of The Dillof Institute for Transformative Knowing. His blog, which is called “Mysteries in Broad Daylight,” offers essays about the deeper meaning of everything, from hamburgers to problems with fitted bed sheets.
Originally from Brooklyn New York, Mark Dillof currently resides in the mystical city of Binghamton, New York, but has plans to relocate this summer to Louisville, Kentucky. Dillof’s book on the philosophy of relationships, Awakening with the Enemy: The Origin and End of Male/Female Conflict, is available on Amazon.
